Kabita Parishad begins mourning week on Shamsur’s death

Jatiya Kabita Parishad began on Sunday a mourning week for the late Shamsur Rahman, a doyen of the Bangla poetry, and opened a condolence book at the Dhaka University Teachers-Students Center.

The program’s will also feature saying prayers at the grave of the poet and visiting the bereaved family on Monday, a citizen’s procession and rally at the Central Shaheed Minar on Tuesday, recitation of poems on Wednesday and Thursday, screening of documentaries on Shamsur Rahman on Friday and a rally at the Central Shaheed Minar on Saturday.

Poet Syed Shamsul Haque inaugurated the program by hoisting black flag at the Teachers-Students Centre Scores of fans of the poet stood in queue to write on the condolence book within a few minutes.

Syed Shamsul Haque said Shamsur Rahman often talked about new moon as a metaphor in his works and his poems will dispel the dark of new moon to create a better Bangladesh.

Kabita Parishad president Rabiul Hussain, general secretary Samudra Gupta, Muhammad Samad Azad, Mohan Raihan, and Aslam Sani attended.
